| We talked extensively with Connectix about their new operating system emulators. Though they could neither confirm nor deny any information on future possible software emulators, they did tell us about their newly announced Virtual PC 3.0 as well as the currently injuncted Virtual Game Station.
The Virtual PC 3.0 adds several useful new features over the previous release. Most notable among these are better support for Sound Blaster Pro cards, improved and updated preferences, USB support, and the ability to script Windows with AppleScript. The new version will only run Windows 98, and to upgrade from version 2.x it will cost $45.
On the juicier side of our meeting, we talked about the current lawsuit Sony has against Connectix, concerning the Virtual Game Station. Connectix clearly stated that they are still marketing Virtual Game Station, though they cannot ship any more copies of it. Because of the temporary injunction against them, only previously shipped copies of Virtual Game Station are available at independent re-sellers. The appeals process should come to a head this fall when we should see just what the court's decision means for emulation software as well as reverse engineered products.
In more pleasant news about the Game Station, we found out that the list of PlayStation games on Connectix's site is actually only a list of games that recieved a 9-10 out of 10 rating on performace in the emulation software. Games not listed may still run well, though there may be small glitches and errors. [Price]
