Beatware seemed to emerge out of nowhere at the MacWorld Expo 99 to wow crowds and win a Best of Show award for its new product, e-Picture. For game designers who want to create snappy web banners or web animation, I have never seen anything easier or more exciting to use than e-Picture.This amazingly intuitive tool makes web animation as easy as drag, drop, and simple animation paths. Not only is e=PIcture capable of handling text and normal graphics, but it can handle and rotate many standard 3D image formats to create powerful and dynamic web animations which can be equally impressively compressed to usable fast download sizes. I had some time to play with e-Picture at the show, and I must admit I have not had such an amazing "gee-whiz" reaction to an interface and ease of use since I was first introduced to a number of the excellent MetaCreations tools such as KPT, Poser, and Bryce. Expect to hear a lot from Beatware in the future; at the show the designer leaked there may be possible future tools in graphics and sound with similar interfaces. Beatware is going to be a company to watch and we'll be putting te-Picture through its paces in our upcoming Game Designer's Tools section.
